Does Religion Foster Prejudice Among Adherents of All World Religions? A Comparison Across Religions

Abstract Background The relation between religiousness and prejudice has been the topic of a large research literature, yet this was so far mostly limited to Western societies with Christian heritage. Purpose This study sought compare religiousness–prejudice relationship adherents monotheistic non-monotheistic religions. Focusing on inter-religious we examined whether theological exclusivism moderated relationship. Methods Multi-group structural equation modeling applied using global data from 6th wave World Values Survey. Results No support found for expected divide religious groups. Religious identity, belief, practice each related differentially across Exclusivism more consistently negatively identity Orthodox Christians Buddhists. Conclusions implications We conclude that attitudes or orientations (i.e., how people believe) are important understand towards others than traditions multiple dimensions religiosity what strongly they believe).
